At home IPL hair removal!

I'm so excited to finally share my experience using my Phillips Lumea SC2009/00 which I purchased at a discounted price of £349.99 directly from boots (WORTH EVERY PENNY). I'm aware that Amazon tend to go up and down on their price so it might be worth keeping an eye out if you're looking to purchase this model. I've been using it for around two to three months now, with huge gaps inbetween because working life tends to get in the way a lot. In this post I'll be giving you an idea of how I've gotten on with it so far.

WARNING: I'm no person to be shy about these things if it's going to help someone else so if you're one to get a lil uncomfortable with regards to the topic of 'down there' then do just skip that part and give the Face and Body bits a read.

So the way that IPL works is that when your hair is in it's growth stage, having removed hairs from the surface (shaving is best) it'll zap it into a sleeping phase, which in effect, slows down the regrowth cycle and causes existing hair bulbs to fall out. Done repeatedly and as instructed by the manual, you will eventually stop growing hairs all together.

I've never shaved in my life so doing it for the sake of this has been a right pain. With the benefit of mum being a beautician I've been lucky that I've always been able to wax. Shaving definitely took some getting used to, I even gave myself a huge cut on my wrist bone the first time which was all types of nasty, the scar still hasn't healed either :(

The recommened time between each session on whichever area is two weeks which I stuck by. Any sooner and I wouldn't have given the growth enough time for the treatment to be affective as there's no hairs to send into sleeping phase to begin with. On top of this, there's obviously been extensive research behind the release of this product so it's always safer to follow the recommendations in the manual.

Bikini Line
The model I chose is suitable for Face, Bikini and Body. I chose it as I felt it's important that each area has it's own head (as shown on the bottom of the box) but I do know of some people just using the body head on the bikini area and giving it a good clean after use as with the SC2007/00 model which doesn't include a bikini-specific head... whatever you prefer as there is nothing different besides from the size about them both. For me the bikini line one worked great because it's smaller than the body head so is convenient to get all areas done properly and I had peace of mind that I wasn't using it elsewhere.
As we all know how quick the growth is for this area, it's the only place I started out doing once every week. I only needed to do that for three weeks, then miss one and twice again the same way. Now it's significantly slowed down the process and there are much less hairs as well as having the most fall out I've noticed from my whole body. I'm still on my once-per-two-week phase of treatment but I'm extremely happy with the results. Less hair growth means clearer and more even looking skin too which again, I'm very pleased with.

Face
I've had a bit of a sideburn and some chin hair that I thought could do with getting rid of so did from my sideburns and whole 'beard' area including chin. I did do my upper lip once but couldn't deal with waiting two weeks for it to grow for the next session as it is the most noticeable of all and never in my life have I let it grow out, I've always threaded as soon as they were just about long enough to be pulled out by it. The facial area is the least uncomfortable to do, all I felt was warmth and have only had to do it 3 times for it to have gotten to a point i'm happy to leave it alone. That's probably because mine weren't so bad to begin with but other people may need to do it just a few more times.

Underarms
As usual this area has been done every two weeks and oh my! I hate to boast but my pits are gettin' prettier by the day - with exfoliation once a week to combat those evil ingrown hairs. I'm near enough to the point the hairs aren't growing back, only a small patch I keep missing on either side is left. With this one again, I've not had to do it more than two times to start seeing a difference, I hadn't done them almost a month before last week which was my fourth time and there was barely any hair there.

Arms and Legs
These are the areas I've been the most laziest with having only done my legs twice and my arms three times. Time is such a big problem for me, I just never get enough of it to keep up however I'm not giving up and will try to do as much as I can, so far it has slowed down the process of regrowth, my shaved arms and legs are now growing back roughly at the rate of waxing.

IPL machines aren't suitable for all skin tones and hair colours so I do recommend doing enough research into it before making the decision to purchase. Me being light-medium skin coloured with dark brown hair meant I was perfectly fine to go ahead and have had the results as mentioned. The advised stength was levels 3-4 from the options on the machine but I've generally stuck with level 3 for comfort. Initially, it might be a slightly horrible, warm sting depending on how sensitive you are but after the first time of completing an area, it's more comfortable as just a flash of warmth. Everyone's different though and the friend who recommened I get this has never felt any of the horribleness that I did.

I will try to do another update a little later down the line but up until then, you are free to ask me any questions via the comments section or email.

Take care my loves xx

Favourite High Street Perfume

I'm all about affordable, quality products and ZARA definitely tick all boxes when it comes to perfumes. Though their clothing is well above my budget, their perfumes are totally worth paying full price.

I love them because:

♥ They're affordable

♥ They're good Quality

♥ The scents never let me down
♥ The sets are nice for gifting

♥ The singles go nicely in gift bags

♥ Often go on sale

♥ Some are known to be dupe scents

♥ Widely available

♥ Nice packaging and bottles.

The Black Rose twin set cost a mere £7.99 for two 50ml bottles on sale and the other set cost around £13 (can't remember exactly) for two 100ml bottles at full price so the pricing is really very reasonable. I often stock up when they're on sale as back up perfumes in case I, or anyone in my family runs out or to keep as last minute gifts - we've all experienced the no time, no idea what to gift dilemma, this may just save the day for you too!

Easy Food | Chicken Steak

Ok, It's been forever but I'm back with another easy peasy recipe. It was around this time last year I did the Eton Mess one.. oops!

You will need 3 medium sized chicken breast pieces, salt, pepper, (I use low fat greek) yoghurt or half a lime, Oil, Badia Complete Seasoning (or other spice mix of choice) along with a non metal dish, grill or grill pan.

So you start with the marinade and there's two different ingredients you may use as your base, yoghurt or the juice of half a lime. Put that into the non metal dish that you'll be setting your chicken aside in. Metal/Steel dishes give meat a weird taste. Add half a teaspoon salt and pepper, and a heaped teaspoon of the Badia seasoning. Mix together, add your chicken breast making sure to coat well and leave to marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Add some oil to your grill and turn on medium heat. Place your chicken on and leave to cook 5 minutes on each side before turning over. Continue the process until you see the chicken is done. It usually takes me around half an hour total to do this.

When you're done. Serve hot with whatever side you prefer; chips, rice, potato, mixed veg etc.

My Mettalic Lip Longing Satisfied - For £1!

As mentioned in my previous post, Kylie's liquid lippy Heir had me in a frenzy. Particularly this picture caught me in all it's screaming glow. I know the Kardashians are a controversial topic so whatever your opinion, you gotta give it to them, their make up game is strong.

When I searched for swatches of Heir to see if it'd match my skin tone, I discovered it was too pale and there's 90% chance it'll wash me out. I always struggle with liquid lipsticks for that reason. Though I have fair-medium skin, colours don't reflect on me as well so I always have to go deeper than what I see on the tube of a colour I like, maybe it has something to do with the undertones as well as my hyperpigmentation, I don't know...

Look at it. It's SO pretty! Technic lipstick - Cashmere Rose.

This treasure satisfied my needs as the perfect colour to go with my OTT desi outfits in combination with bold but simplistic matte black eyes and glowy bronzed skin. Heir appears to be more nude peach as opposed to this which is a gold coral pink when applied. The light catches it's gold shimmer perfectly and it goes with my skin tone so well. I picked mine up for a pound at my local bodycare. I haven't wore it properly so wouldn't know how long lasting it is and you know what? I don't even care, I like it that much. Plus I can always combat that by putting it on top of a similarly coloured or nude liquid lipstick whilst it hasn't fully dried to get it to stick well.

I also came across some 'DIY Heir' Material. In a blog post the Milani mettalic liquid lipsticks were used and for the rest, people were just tapping champagne coloured pigment on top of other matte liquid lipsticks. I guess the latter is good if you get in there before it dries properly so I'll be giving that a go too, just to play around and see if there's any other similar yet different shades I can create.

Milani & L.A. Girl come to the UK!

Hi Beauties, just a quick one to let you know that you can now purchase genuine Milani & LA Girl products directly from their new official UK sites - hurrah! I found out through being subscribed to beautycrowd's mailing list who are unfortunately closing for a while but sent the email to say they're partnering up with both mentioned sites - apparently to give us 20% off on both but no code came in the email and the links aren't working for me (If any readers can help with what's going on with that I'd really appreciate it!) Both sites have free postage on orders over £20. Otherwise, delivery starts at £2.95 on both sites with options available for other methods of shipping.

CLICKABLE LINKS TO SHOP NOW; L.A GIRL | MILANI
I won't be purchasing anything as of yet because I've done too much make up shopping lately as it is but here's what's on my wishlist for when I do.

Milani & L.A. Girl Wishlist

The Milani Amore Mattalics Lip Creme in Chromattic Addict and Matterialistic (I sarcastically have Kylie to thank, this and this got me obessing over neutral-goldy metallics all of a sudden lol my bank account is gonna hate me if I give in)

Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer. No idea what shade i'd be but so far all I've heard and seen of it has been good. Admittedly it's the bottle that got me at first.

Milani Baked Bronzer in Glow. This stuff looks magical. I love the shimmer (again the new goldy shimmer obsession kicking in). When I first started wearing make up, bronzing was a must and I kinda miss those glowy old days.

♥ L.A. Girl lip candy... their Matte Pigment Gloss in Dreamy and Velvet Matte Lipsticks in Snuggle and Bliss. Snuggle and Dreamy are colours I'd get the most wear out of and I like Bliss because of what I've seen it appears to be a purple toned bright pink which is one shade I don't have right now.

L.A. Girl Pro HD Setting powder. Again, heard good things and am curious and yet to explore in the area of setting powders as I've never given this part of my make up routine much thought. I've always tended to focus on my base, so foundation and concealer but now believe that setting powders can make all the difference too.

Recent Websites I've Used

The internet can be a tricky thing sometimes, you really have to be savvy when making first time purchases from random websites and it's diffucult when they're the only ones with the item you really want at a suitable price point. It's a right mix but I'm sharing my recent experiences with you of not very well known websites that might just come in handy to buy or not to buy from and will contunue to do so because I know how useful it can sometimes be.

www.ultimaspices.co.uk
I found this site after searching for my all favourite seasoning called the Badia Complete Seasoning. It's a blend containing salt, pepper, cumin, and other spices which is so versatile. It's perfection for seasoning a quick steak or adding in chicken pasties. The service was honestly great. I had no problems whatsoever and the customer service team respond to enquiries in a timely manner. I don't remember how long it took to arrive but I know it was under 10 days. They even threw in some seasoning sample sachets which was nice as I've only ever tried the Complete Seasoning and was more than happy to be able to try something else.

Brandsaver.com
My all favourite Astonish Oven & Cookware cleaner ran out, I checked in all my nearest stores but to no avail so I took to the trusty internet and found this site as the cheapest supplier of the great stuff. Again, I had absolutely no issues with my order and it arrived in under a week so will be using this site again when my four tubs run out. It's the only product with a blob of washing up liquid I like to use on our induction hob.

Bahira.com
Unfortunately, I can't say I'm as happy with this site as with the previous two. The service didn't make me feel looked after at all. I wish I had trusted the reviews on TrustPilot because I would have saved a lot of hassle. The customer service team don't respond and are very relcutant to issue any refunds. Mine took 6 weeks to be issued. I was so disappointed because I thought I had finally found a site that would save me hours of travel to major cities to do all my occaison wear desi clothes shopping but unfortunately not.

Not quite henna, Henna #2

I love regular henna but the current situation is that I’ve just been too lazy to go through the process of looking for inspo to waiting til it’s dried so ordered some henna tattoos off eBay. Partly my inspiration was Tamanna Roashan modelling her own henna transfers which you can buy here or the dupe from here. Those are a mix of metallic and black so I wanted to see what I could do that was a) cheaper and b) more customisable than the branded sheets (which usually only have 1 to 4 sheets per pack) and c) only black as opposed to the mixed, metallic or white ones which I know I would never use.

I bought four packs of transfers with 8 sheets in each. You can buy the ones I got here at £2.90. There's so much you can do with the choice of designs. The quality of the sheets is really good, it's on a firm thick paper with a protective plastic sheet over it. Once you remove the plastic, like most transfers, it's sticky which helps keep it in place when reaching for the wet towel to press over it.

To do the design I did, I only needed one and a half tattoos. The main baroque design was one. Then the fingers and bracelet were all from half of the strip tattoo above. I just cut it up and used the pieces as shown. They last nicely up to a week if you take care of it properly – something I’m guilty of not doing. You’re supposed to dab when drying your hands after washing but I’ve been wiping with the towel as usual which meant the fingers didn’t last long at all. The lower design stuck it out and lasted a good couple days before that too, was sabotaged by my carelessness. If you want to take them off it’s not very difficult, all you do is soak the area in warm water and rub it away. You can use a loofah to speed up the process and make it easier if it’s more stubborn or sometimes it just rubs away whilst dry.

Pro’s; Easy, quick, pretty designs, customisable, lots in a pack, good quality, cheap.

Cons; take forever(a month) to get here, don't last as long as natural henna.

The nails I’ve got on are just £1 stiletto ones from primark. I’m not much of a false nails person so wouldn’t know how they compare to other brands but I just loved the colour and shape. That picture doesn’t do them justice as they actually looked like acrylics aside from the obvious thinness. It was hard to do regular things in them though because I’m not used to them and I just felt I had to be careful or they’d snap off. I found myself re-gluing multiple times for the two days I wore them for and personally wouldn’t wear them any longer to avoid build-up of glue on my natural nails which took forever to fully come off. To get the nails alone off, it was easy, I just soaked them in hot water and gently pulled away.

Do excuse the odd alignment of the text, it just isn't cooperating with me today x

The Kitty Cafe Nottingham

Yesterday, I visited Nottingham for study related purposes. Since I was there already it only made sense that I'd visit the Kitty Cafe too - I live far and hell no, I wasn't going to pass on this!

I had booked for free, two weeks in advance through the Tripadvisor page but you can also book through their own website. Bookings are for one hour only because it really is a busy place, you're told 15 minutes before the end that you'll need to go soon. It's really not in a pushy horrible way either, it was a friendly reminder.

We arrived 15 minutes early and were checked in but asked to wait until our table was free which was fine because they allow you to play with the cats in the meantime. I wouldn't advise going early as there's no designated waiting area and there can soon be a build up of people at the front when other groups are coming and going or paying for orders or entrance. At checking in we were asked if we'd been here before and then given a sheet of house rules to read and a sheet to sign that we'd read it. After that we then payed the entrance fee of £5 per person.

The cafe is a lot larger than I'd expected. There's two big rooms for seating, we were seated in the second one which is more spacious however has less cats walking about. From this room you could see into the kitchen through the glass wall as pictured above. It was nice because aside from looking good, it also gave customers peace of mind by being able to see how their food or drink was being prepared. The same room had what they call the 'cat snug' where all the cats can go to get out of the way for some peace and quiet - a lot of the adoreable kittens were hiding in there and occaisonally popped out to say hi.

The environment was very clean! Not a single kitty 'accident' anywhere. The tables were immaculate - I'd seen the waitress' waste no time in going to clean them the minute the previous customer had left. The cats themselves were very well looked after. Fluffy as ever, you could tell they get regular baths, are groomed properly and treated well thanks to the house rules in place. Amongst the house rules (which you can find on their website) are things such as;

'Do not pick up the cats'
'Do not wake a sleeping cat'
'No holding the cat down or in any position'
'No cornering or trapping the cats'
'No flash photography'

I'll be honest I was disappointed to know I couldn't pick them up and properly play with them but I can fully understand why that is. It must be exhausting for the cats to have hundreds of strangers wanting to play with them every day, at every time of the day.
Think of the cats as an added environmental element to your regular visit to the cafe. You're just eating, drinking and chatting away whilst cat's roam around. It's also an open kind of environment where you'll have strangers coming to your table if there's a cat. Everyone is really friendly so it all works well, like the unspoken rule of having turns to pet a cat thats letting you.

Now on to the tea, gosh I love a good cuppa green tea. I was so spoilt for choice with the amount of herbal and green teas to choose from, I really didn't want to be boring by choosing something I can have at home. I ended up asking the waitress to recommend a popular one so she recommened Japanese Blossom Green Tea and I loved it! Before the cafe, I had just had a hearty meal elsewhere. I was stuffed and needed something to aid digestion so this was perfect. There wasn't a single hair on the dishes or in the drinks like some cat cafes are known to have. I noticed the cats also don't try to get at your food, just incase - there is an umberella provided.

All the cats at the cafe are rehomed and the cafe itself is a rehoming centre so if you go and meet a cat that you feel a connection with, you can ask about the adoption process.
There are baby changing facilities and both entrances are wheelchair friendly so if you are interested in making a visit, below are the details to get you there.

More Snapchatters to Follow!

I've recently got back into SC and added quite an amount more beauty related snapchatters. It's great because I love getting the more personal details of what they like to use and what works best regarding hair and beauty. This time, I've included beauty royalty...

MARIO DEDIVANOVIC! (top row - left) - makeupbymario
None other than Kim K's make up artist. The first day I added him, he'd put a story up for all his fave products which was awesome to know about and you can most likely expect more in the future as he'd done one again not long after.

Lubna Nazir (top row - centre) - lubna_nazir
A South Asian bridal make up artist based in Manchester. It's always enjoyable to see real bride makeovers done by her. She is highly talented and amongst the best in the UK South-Asian bridal make up game. If you find her on instagram @lubna_nazir, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Sohal Grewal aka blueroseartistry (top row - right) - sohalgrewal
A south asian make up artist in the US who's makeovers can be found on youtube, she's learned from and is recognised by Tamanna Roashan which is visible in her own make up style. She's so developed and good at what she does, it's worth checking her out on instagram @blueroseartsitry if you live in Vancouver and need a MUA.

Hrush Achemyan (bottom row - right) - hrushhh
Kylie K's make up artist and a beauty herself! Another A list celebrity make up artist you don't want to miss.

Manny (bottom row - centre) - mannymua
Manny is hilarious! His snaps are so light hearted and fun to watch. You can expect appearences by Patrick Starr and won't lack beauty inspo here as he has you covered ;) p.s can we talk about how on point his eyes are looking in that snap?!
